Let’s start with the obvious: the last post I published here was in late October. That is nearly three months absent. Even for this very slack blogger, that is a ridiculously long break. I do have a reason, an excuse really, but even with that I realise this was crazy.
The thing is that in early November, we found out that our last round of fertility treatment was successful. So yes, I am pregnant, after more than three long years of waiting.
This was a huge shock (the best kind of shock). And what was also a shock was how hard it hit me. From mid-November right up until Christmas I was feeling sick most of the day, and spent a LOT of time on the couch and in bed. I was grateful to be there, but it also sucked.
Then at Christmas, we went to Thailand. It was cooler, and the climate changed things overnight. Suddenly I could spend time outside, and walk around exploring. It was still a lazy holiday, but it was also lovely. We wandered and marketed and board gamed and ate Mexican food and took a cooking class and went to a National Park and temples. I slept quite a lot, but that was okay. I was feeling great. (So great that I got nervous something had gone wrong!)
And then on our last day, we were walking home, chatting away, when a dog tied up on the side of the street started barking and snapped and bit my leg. It was pretty gnarly, so we rushed to a clinic for a rabies shot and a clean up (
and to push everything back inside my leg). All went fine, and the wound is healing well. But unfortunately, healing well still means keeping weight off it, keeping it mostly elevated, and avoiding too much water. So no swimming, no walking, no yoga. Lots ofett Full House watching. I am getting a pretty strong case of cabin fever. I want to get out and enjoy this second trimester energy!
Long story short – I am one of those bloggers who take an extended blog break, and come back with baby news. I am happy about it (delighted even!), but don’t intend for this blog to become a baby blog. Nor do I intend to have such long absences in the future (although I can’t promise anything there).
And for the next few days at least, I’m fairly couch-bound, so might well be playing catch up!
